Following the terrible earthquake in February, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared on Wednesday that there will be no election delays and that the vote would go place on May 14.

On May 14, the Turkish people will take the appropriate action, he assured parliamentarians from his ruling party in Ankara.
The Turkish president had previously suggested conducting the crucial vote, which may extend the rule of his Islamic-based administration till 2028, on May 14.

Yet, there have been doubts about whether that vote could go as scheduled after the enormous earthquake that left more than 45,000 people dead in Turkey.

Erdogan has declared a three-month state of emergency across 11 quake-hit provinces. The region is still suffering from strong tremors, making the likelihood of campaigning in the area extremely unlikely.
