Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has criticized the February 25 governorship election, claiming that it was tainted and did not reflect God’s will.

Mr. Okowa, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) vice presidential candidate, stated this on Friday during a meeting with members of the Isoko Church Leaders Council in the state’s Isoko South Local Government Area.

“We saw the manipulation of the election coming, and the church of Christ prayed against the situation which we have just found ourselves in,” he said.

Governor Okowa Alerts Christians, Says Aso Rock Chapel Risks Closure

Mr Okowa added, “Obviously, this is not the will of God. It is not the will of God that the chapel in Aso Rock will be closed for four years as a result of the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was proclaimed the presidential election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr. Okowa asked church leaders to continue to pray fervently.

“This is the time for us to rise up in faith and not time to mourn. The church must be prayerful and cautious and have to think from the inside.

“It is my prayer that the chapel in Government House, Asaba, will remain to the glory of God,” the governor said.

Mr. Okowa also urged religious leaders and Delta citizens to vote for Sheriff Oborevwori, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the state, in the March 11 governorship election.

The governor also asked them to vote for all PDP Delta House of Assembly candidates in various constituencies across the state.

Mr. Okowa went on to say that Mr. Oborevwori, who is also the speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, possessed the necessary experience to stimulate greater development in the state.

Mr Oborevwori, for his part, sought the support of the state’s church and religious leaders in advance of his March 11 triumph.

He promised Delta residents that if elected governor, he would not let them down.
