Senator Shehu Sani, a member of the 8th National Assembly, attacked the five disgruntled governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), colloquially known as the G5, for their conduct before and during the just ended 2023 presidential election.

According to Newsmen, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Seyi Makinde are members of the G5, popularly known as the Integrity Group (Oyo).

The Wike-led organization promised to work against the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and they did so. They had demanded that the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, resign and make way for a candidate of southern origin as a condition for supporting the former Vice President.

Their requests, however, were ignored by the PDP’s main body. According to news reports, the G5 supported different candidates in the presidential election, while those who ran for the National Assembly fared badly.

Senator Sani stated days after the election that Wike and his team’s support for Atiku would not have counted for his victory because they could not help themselves in the general elections.

“Even if the G5 backed HE Atiku, it wouldn’t have made any difference. They couldn’t even help themselves talk less of helping their Presidential candidate. They failed to realise that the masses have gone beyond taking commanding instruction from Governors; Governors now beg,” Sani wrote on Twitter.
