Shema Warns PDP To Withdraw Suspension Within The Next 48 Hrs

Former Katsina State governor, Ibrahim Shehu Shema, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) to lift the suspension imposed on him within 48 hours.

According to news reports, the PDP had submitted Benue state governor Samuel Ortom to a Disciplinary Committee and suspended Ayo Fayose, Shema, and Anyim Pius Anyim, among others.

Shema stated in a letter dated March 24, 2023 and written to the party’s National Chairperson, Iyorchia Ayu, that if his suspension was not lifted, the PDP leadership should consider him out of the party effective Saturday, March 25, 2023.

Shema also requested that the NWC dismantle the “illegal caretaker committee” of the PDP in Katsina state and recognize the “duly elected” execuive committee in the state.

The letter read: “I cannot therefore continue to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s laws who is duty bound to preserve, protect and defend our constitution within his limited powers.

“It is in the height of these developments that I make the following appeals: Rescind the National Working Committee (NWC) decision of unlawful dissolution of Katsina State duly elected Executive Committee and allow them to complete their tenure and disband the purported caretaker committee similar to which so many court decisions in the land have illegalised.

“Rescind the National Working Committee (NWC) decision of my suspension as a member of our party within the next Forty-Eight (48) hours.

“Take notice that failure to effect these two changes above within Forty-Eight (48) hours, this letter serves as the formal and official withdrawal of my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) effective from Saturday 25 March 2023.”
