Humphrey Anumudu, a Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Imo State, was discovered dead in his home.

Anumudu, who had planned to run in the LP governorship primary, was alleged to have died in his Lagos home after returning from the party’s meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

Anumudu, from Mbieri Ancient Kingdom in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state, was found dead in his house in what family sources described as a “spiritual attack,” according to report.

Anumudu, a multi-billionaire businessman turned politician, has been running for the state governorship seat since 1998.

He was reported to be the genuine winner of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in 1998 before the ticket was given to Achike Udenwa, who ruled the state from 1999 to 2007.

He had been running for the state’s number one seat ever since. He was the Zenith Labour Party’s governorship candidate in 2019.

According to a close friend of the deceased, he died at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

The late politician had already paid 25 million Naira for the Labour Party’s Governorship form for the November 11th, 2023 Guber election.

Chief Anumudu, a well-known legal scholar and astute politician, was also the CEO of Globe Motors.

He previously ran for governor as a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
