Fulani herdsmen in Anambra State, organized by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), have expressed dissatisfaction with the state’s population.

According to MACBAN, its members are being denied accommodations in the state’s south-east, causing disruptions to their typical business.

According to Newsmen, the leader of MACBAN in the South East, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, revealed this to journalists over the weekend after attending Governor Charles Soludo’s one-year anniversary in office.

When addressing dignitaries at the ceremony in Akwa, the state capital, Siddiki mentioned Anaku, Umueje, Omor, Igbakwu, Omasi, Umumbo, Umuerum, and Ifite-Ogwari as localities where MACBAN members have been denied accommodation. These are all in the Ayamelum local government council of the state.

He urged Governor Solud’s administration to act quickly to restore peace and unity. Notwithstanding “few incidences of misunderstanding,” Siddiki stated his men enjoy a friendly relationship with the indigenous people.

Siddiki said: “Our interest in the areas was purely economic. No herder was interested in contesting the ownership of land with members of their host communities across the state.

“We commended the Police and DSS for their prompt responses whenever there is a conflict between our members and our host communities in the state.”

But, the MACBAN head stated that much more needed to be done to ensure that law-abiding residents, including herders, could do their enterprises freely in the state.

He claims that as cattle breeders, they are seeking a safe environment in which to conduct their grazing operations.

“We are ready to support our host communities in any capacity they want us to, in order to make life meaningful for everyone and to sustain the already peaceful co-existence in the areas,” Siddiki added.
