Benue Family Reportedly Rejects Coffin Brought By Their Son-In-Law For Burial Of His Mother-In-Law, Says “It’s Not Beautiful”

According to reports, a family in Tombo Mbatie, in the Buruku local government area of Benue State, rejected a coffin that their son-in-law had brought for the burial of his mother-in-law.
Bem Raphael Aondongu, a Facebook user, revealed this on his page and stated that the incident took place on March 30, 2023.

The post stated, “In the wee hours of this morning, an unnamed family rejected a casket brought by son-in-law for the burial of mother-in-law.”

According to TIV tradition, the first female child to get married is forced to take on the burden of arranging for a casket to be used for the burial of any deceased parents.


“And for the maintenance of tradition, the first female child in conjunction with her husband who is a son in-law to the deceased mother, tried as he could to bring this casket in the pictures below but only to be rejected.

“According to the family of the deceased, they said the casket isn’t beautiful and too poor to bury a member of their family. You can see how they casket is turned upside down. What’s your take on this?”
