Igbo youths known as the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, have demanded the immediate release of Eze Igbo in Ajao Estate in Lagos, Eze Fredrick Nwajagu, who was arrested on Saturday by DSS operatives.

According to news reports, DSS detained Nwajagu on Saturday for threatening in a viral video to ask members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to help safeguard Ndigbo residing in Lagos and their property from hoodlum attacks.

In response to the arrest on Saturday, COSEYL’s President General, Goodluck Ibem, stated in a statement that the DSS and the Nigeria Police had left the genuine crisis to chase shadows.

Ibem questioned why the Police and DSS did not pursue MC Oluomo, who harassed Igbos during the governorship and House of Assembly elections last month.

He noted that when claimed attacks were carried out on Igbos in Lagos during the March 18 polls, the DSS and Police lost steam, only to regain it after Nwajagu’s remark.

According to them, Nwajagu’s remark was prompted by the persistent silence of security personnel in the aftermath of the purported attack on Igbos in Lagos.

The organisation warned security personnel in Lagos not to mistreat Igbos.

“The same police and DSS that arrested Eze Fredrick Nwajagu and other innocent Igbos, what did they do when thugs were killing and attacking Igbos and their properties in Lagos during and after the general elections? The answer is nothing”, the statement reads in part.
