Police Reacts Over Alleged Killing of Five IPOB Members In Abia State

The Abia State Police Command has stated that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) attacked its men with hazardous weapons in Aba on Friday.

According to the Command, the attack occurred when police officers were on a show of force patrol in the commercial center.

In a statement issued by Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, Public Public Relations Officer, PPRO, the Commissioner of Police cautioned that security services would not tolerate the disruption of Abia State’s peace.

According to the statement, “On 31/3/2023 at about 1145h hours, Policemen on confidence building patrol/show of force within Aba metropolis came under attack by proscribed IPOB/ESN members armed with patrol bombs, machetes, battle axes and other dangerous weapons.”

“The attack was repelled by the Police operatives with minimal causalities while majority of the hoodlums scampered for safety.

Normalcy has restored to the area, however.”

During Friday’s crisis in Aba, five IPOB members were reportedly slain by police forces while protesting for the release of Leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Nevertheless, a group led by Hon Goodluck Ibem, Coalition of South East Young Leaders, COSEYL, claimed that five IPOB members were slain during a peaceful rally.
