Senator Smart Adeyemi (Kogi West) has urged opposition politicians who are unsatisfied with the outcome of the 2023 presidential election to wait till the 2027 elections, emphasizing that the February 25th election was genuine.

According to news reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the election winner. However, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) both rejected the election and filed a petition with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to contest the results.

On Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Adeyemi claimed that the 2023 election was one of the freest in the country’s history, despite flaws.

He said: “I speak my mind at any point in time. And let me tell you the truth. I hold the view that this election was free to a large extent and better than the previous election. Those who feel bitter can just wait for the next election.”

He claimed that Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima are the most trusted leaders in the country, emphasizing that the former Lagos State governor has engaged in people and created strong links across Nigeria, making his election victory not surprising.

He added that “The fact of the matter is that Asiwaju and Shettima are the popular contestants, and they won.”

Although stressing that the poll was free, the legislator stated that there will always be those who refuse to recognize the results of an election.
