Bayo Onanuga, the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Team’s Director of Media and Publicity, has responded to Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s letter to President Joe Biden of America on Bola Tinubu’s victory in Nigeria’s presidential election on February 25.

He said Adichie only created fiction because of Peter Obi’s loss in her letter.

According to newsmen, the writer questioned Tinubu’s election as President-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) on Thursday.

Adichie chastised the US State Department in an open letter to President Biden for celebrating Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite a botched electoral process.

She cited widespread reports of violence, ballot box theft, voter intimidation, and other irregularities in the February 25 election as reasons why the US should not accept Tinubu’s victory.

Chimamanda noted that the congratulatory statement itself mentioned that Nigerians were frustrated by the “manner in which the process was conducted and the shortcomings of technical elements that were used for the first time in a presidential election cycle,” quoting Ned Price, the spokesperson for the US State Department.

She advised the US president against being indifferent to Nigeria’s current predicament by endorsing the results of the “undemocratic process.”

In response, Onanuga, in a tweet on Friday, encouraged US President Donald Trump to destroy the writer’s letter once it reaches him.

He wrote: “Dear President Joe Biden, please just trash the open letter by Chimamanda on Nigeria’s election once it gets to your desk. She wrote fiction, inspired by the monumental loss of her tribesman Peter Obi.”
