Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the suspended resident electoral commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, has claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is unaware of his location.

Festus Okoye, the electoral commission’s spokesman, announced this on Friday during an interview on Channel Television’s Sunrise Daily, according to Newsmen.

Okoye claimed that the embattled REC was summoned by the Commission leadership to appear at the offices but that he failed to do so and did not answer his phone when he was phoned.

According to the INEC spokesman, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) must issue a wanted declaration for Yunusa-Ari if he is on the run, hence the electoral body is unable to do so.

Okoye claimed that the Commission had requested in writing that Usman Akali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, look into the suspended REC in order to consider filing charges.

In order to inform President Muhammadu Buhari of the REC’s improper conduct and perhaps reconsider his nomination, INEC also wrote to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

As a result of his involvement in the controversy surrounding the Adamawa State supplemental governorship election, Yunusa-Ari has been cleared for immediate suspension by Buhari.

Additionally, the President directed the Inspector-General of Police to launch a swift inquiry and, if necessary, bring charges against the suspended REC.

On behalf of the SGF, the Director of Information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Willie Bassey, released a statement on Thursday that included the President Buhari’s order.

The examination of all security personnel connected to the problems surrounding Adamawa State’s supplemental governorship election last Saturday was also ordered by the President.
