Four alleged members of a violent kidnapping gang in Anambra State were slain by security personnel. The group is known for intimidating drivers on the Nkpor-Umuoji-Ideani road.
The route had lately been deemed hazardous, and numerous state citizens have issued travel advisories against traveling it after 6 o’clock in the evening.
After several complaints about the situation of the region were made to the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the armed robbery and kidnapping group was reportedly confronted on Sunday.
Anambra Police kill A Kidnapping Ringleader, Arrest Others
The governor gave security personnel, including the police and local vigilantes, a directive to remove the suspects, according to Mr. Christian Aburime, the governor’s chief press secretary, who revealed the execution of the suspects.
Aburime said: “Following the mandate and declaration by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, to rid Anambra State of all criminal elements, the Anambra State Security Forces on Sunday the 7th of May, 2023 effectively neutralized a deadly gang of kidnappers terrorizing innocent citizens along the Nkpor-Umuoji-Ideani road.
“The gang of kidnappers, who had hitherto terrorized innocent citizens along that axis, paid dearly with their lives when security forces, acting on intelligence report, swooped on the areas and engaged them in an intense gun battle.
“Four of the deadly criminals were despatched to the great beyond, while other members of the gang were arrested.”

Those who were detained, according to him, were already in the police’s network and were providing information on their activities.
The governor, according to Aburime, reiterated his directive that all criminal elements in the state be driven out while assuring residents of their safety.
