Locals in Kaduna State’s Birnin-Gwari town claim that militants escaping from nearby Zamfara State besieged the town and kidnapped a number of inhabitants.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday night in Birnin-Gwari’s Gobirawa neighborhood, which is close to the NTA Birnin-Gwari. A field base for the Air Force is less than 500 meters away from the region.

Abdullahi Ibrahim Muhammad Amir, the head of the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Council, warned locals to restrict their movements throughout the whole Birnin-Gwari Emirate.

Following a meeting with the Emirate Council and local security organizations, the warning was issued. Starting at 8:30 p.m., the chairman declared that all kinds of movement—whether by foot, bicycle, or car—were forbidden throughout the emirate.

Danmasanin Birnin-Gwari and former Managing Director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation, Alhaji Zubair Abdurra’uf, who spoke to journalists on Friday evening, said that “when I said early this month that terrorists were closing in, on Birnin-Gwari, many people did not believe me.”

Abdurra’uf expressed his dismay that the terrorists had the audacity to enter the main town of Birnin-Gwari and carry out their evil acts.
He criticised the government for not addressing the issue of security in Birnin-Gwari and suggested that a security summit be held in the area.

He also noted that the terrorists had taken over most of the farmlands in the central part of Birnin-Gwari, making it impossible for people to farm.
Despite this, he expressed hope that the government would take action to enable the people of Birnin-Gwari to conduct their activities peacefully.

He said that the Local Government Council had imposed a curfew on Birnin-Gwari as a drastic measure.
