The Labour Party (LP) has filed a petition with the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) in Abuja challenging the results of the 2023 presidential election.

The court set aside three hours on Tuesday during the resumed proceedings to hear the appeal submitted by the LP and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The petitioners’ attorney, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), had stated that they would be presenting 50 witnesses when the five-person panel ordered the party and Obi to summon the first witness.

However, Uzoukwu (SAN) responded that the petitioners only had one witness in court today when the judge inquired as to how many witnesses they have for the start of their case.

Remember that the tribunal instructed the LP and Obi to present their case in three weeks, during which time they were to call 50 of the prepared witnesses. The case was to open on May 30 and finish on June 23.

The presidential election tribunal further indicated that the trial in the case would conclude on August 5 when attorneys for the parties are to adopt their last written addresses. Thereafter, a date for judgment will be set.
