Former Senate Minority Leader Senator Godswill Akpabio’s bid for the Senate presidency in the 10th National Assembly is said to have lost the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Newsmen, Senator Akpabio received the support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) together with three other candidates for leadership positions in the National Assembly.

However, several party members were upset by this statement, which sparked protests and condemnation.

According to recent reports, senators, notably those from the South West, intend to get together to discuss changing their minds on who should lead the Senate.

The purpose of this meeting is to disseminate the findings of a significant conference of influential senators-elect, to which some of their members are expected to go.

Vanguard’s sources claim that Tinubu, acting on the advise of his political allies, has apparently stopped supporting Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State.

In his inaugural speech, Tinubu underlined the importance of having strong anti-corruption organizations because he is committed to running an administration free from corruption.

According to a senator who commented on the development, “Most of us have come to the full realization of the fact that President Bola Tinubu would not for anything support any senator with myriads of cases of corruption in the anti-graft agencies.”
