Serious claims of electoral wrongdoing during the 2023 presidential election were brought to the attention of the Presidential Election Petition Court on Friday.

These allegations state that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, was the target of considerable rigging, mostly in Ward Collation Centers.

Mr. Nicholas Msheliza, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) collation agent for Borno State, testified concerning the alleged intimidation of PDP operatives at the collation facilities.

The operatives were allegedly chased away, and the polling unit results were then tampered with.

Msheliza further claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had broken the law by failing to submit the election results electronically as mandated by the 2022 Electoral Act.

Hon Sani Idris Kutigi, a former member of the House of Representatives, also testified, noting anomalies between the data entered into Form EC8D and the actual votes recorded at polling places.

Due to these contradictions, he declined to support the results that had been compiled.

However, Kutigi acknowledged that he did not include the actual data from the polling units in his witness testimony, claiming a shortage of room, when questioned by the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi.

Silas Joseph Onu, a lawyer and the third witness, claimed that while PDP agents were carrying out their responsibilities at collation centers in Ebonyi State, they were chased out of voting places, some of them were arrested, and imprisoned at police stations.

He further said that when his party’s agents had to evacuate in order to avoid being hurt, the perpetrators of the fake results were left unchecked.

Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani postponed the hearing till Monday, June 5, at the request of Atiku’s attorney.
