Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, has been contacted by the immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari, asking him to obey the APC’s decision about the zoning of the presiding posts in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

According to news sources, this has increased former Senate Minority Leader Senator Godswill Akpabio’s desire to become Senate President before to the start of the 10th National Assembly.

Recall that the APC had declared that Senator Akpabio and three other candidates had received their support for the top positions in the National Assembly. The ruling party supported Senator Kanu of the South-East for the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Jubrin Barau of the North-West for the position of Deputy Senate President, and Senator Akpabio of the South-South for the position of Senate President.

Some party members, particularly those who were vying for the Senate and House of Representatives presiding positions, did not take this well.

Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Osita Izunaso, Senator Sani Musa, Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, Hon. Aliyu Betara, and numerous more newly elected lawmakers have continued to pursue their ambitions.

Vanguard claims that Buhari has flatly rejected Yari’s bid to become the third-ranking official in the nation.

Yari was reportedly rebuffed by the previous President when he went to Buhari to ask for his support.

According to a source, Buhari was furious that Yari decided to pursue his ambition despite the fragile state of the nation following the emergence of the President and Vice President of a Muslim background.

The source said, “They came to Daura believing that they could use their money to buy the conscience of the former First family just as they believe that money would get them the position.

“They were all told to go back and respect the position of the President and the party leadership on their choices for the leadership of the National Assembly.”

According to the source, Buhari reminded Yari that throughout his eight years in administration, he did not meddle in the operations of the National Assembly and that he would not try to undermine the independence of the assembly to elect its leaders now that he was out of office.

Additionally, it was learned that attempts to include the former First Lady Aisha Buhari in the situation failed since she is rumored to have rejected the approach.

She was reported to have claimed that the former president’s family valued national unity more than any individual ambition.

Only five senators-to-be, according to reports, traveled with Yari to the former president’s Daura house.

Five fresh supporters have reportedly joined the camp of Senators Godswill Akpabio and Barau, boosting the number of Senators-Elect who had endorsed the ticket as of the time this article was being written.
