The new property laws have drawn criticism from investigative journalist David Hundeyin of Nigeria and Speaker Mudashiru Obasa of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to news sources, Obasa said on Tuesday that the state would enact new legislation to safeguard its native citizens.

For the third time in a row, Obasa was elected speaker of the Lagos Assembly. He stated that as part of its legislative agenda, laws and resolutions in the areas of economy and commerce, property and titles, and reversal of all that are reversible would be passed to safeguard indigenous people’s interests.

Lagos is a Yoruba state, according to Obasa, who alluded to some of the debates leading up to the 2023 elections, such as the claim that non-indigenous people sought to take over the state.

In response, Hundeyin claimed that Obasa’s kid, who also happens to be his close friend and former classmate, has a residence in Canada in a post on Twitter on Thursday.

In addition, Hundeyin criticized Obasa for the new law, claiming that he is not a native of Lagos State.

He said, “Obasa’s son who happens to be my good friend and former classmate, happens to live in Canada, where he is also a homeowner.

“Me, I will not say much on this issue. If they gave birth to you people, try this nonsense first.

“Non-indigenes” shouldn’t live and own property in Lagos (which you’re NOT even indigenous to), but your family members can live and own property in another country on another continent.
