The Kano State Police Command officially outlawed the use of sirens on Thursday, citing the fact that even those who are permitted frequently use them sporadically and without justification.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna, noted in a statement that vehicles with sirens are only for designated members of society, such as emergency responders and other government officials.
Users must adhere to certain rules, and there are established times when the siren cannot be used. In particular, sirens sound every day from six in the morning until six in the evening.
