Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for president in the election of February 25, asked the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Thursday for permission to question the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the information and communication technology (ICT) experts employed to conduct the election.

Obi sought to determine the caliber of the ICT specialists used in the use of technology for the conduct of the election in two distinct arguments filed on his behalf by Mr. Patrick Ikweto, SAN.

Obi and LP presented 12 questions in the two motions that were sent to the electoral authority for answers in order to help them prove their claims of improper behavior, particularly election fraud.

He said that if granted, the proposal will help him effectively present his appeal opposing the announcement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the election’s winner.

However, INEC opposed to Obi’s plan to interrogate his client using ineffective applications. INEC was represented by Mr. Kemi Pinhero, SAN.

Obi brought his applications forward after the deadline set down by law, according to the senior attorney.

Pinhero specifically stated that such an application should have been brought and discussed during the pre-hearing session, adding that by doing so, the court has lost the authority to consider the motion.

He emphasized that the application must be denied because it is pointless and that the court’s limited resources should not be used to process such a request.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), represented by Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and President Tinubu both opposed granting the request, arguing that it was blatantly illegal and inept in the face of the law.

Haruna Tsammani, the presiding justice, has delayed making a decision on the applications.

Additionally, Justice Tsammani set June 9 as the date for the next hearing on the petition.
