The new Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has clarified a circulating claim that his administration had finalized arrangements to reinstate ousted Emir of Kano Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi.

Rumors circulated that the new government had decided to fire all of the newly appointed emirs and reinstate Sanusi as the state’s sole first-class traditional ruler.

The state assembly was expected to consider a motion to that effect on Thursday, purportedly supported by the chamber’s majority leader, Lawan Hussaini, a member representing the Dala seat.

Governor Yusuf said in a statement issued late Wednesday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature, that aside from the request to appoint 20 special advisers, which lawmakers approved, there has been no other correspondence between the executive and legislative branches of government in the state.

“Contrary to rumours circulating on social media, the Kano State government has not yet taken any decision on the new emirates as speculated,” the statement stated.

He further stated that the list of commissioner-nominees will be submitted to the state assembly for confirmation next week.

“It is expected that the list of commissioner nominees who will serve in the next cabinet will be sent to the assembly for confirmation next week,” the statement said.

The speculation about the reversal of the steps taken by the Abdullahi Ganduje administration in Kano State on the Kano Emirate Council gained traction after Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), revealed that the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf in Kano State will revisit the dethronement of Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.

He also stated that the separation of the Kano Emirate into five distinct Emirates would be reviewed.
