Ofem Obeten (DSP rtd), National Legal Adviser of the Association of Police Retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme, and Retired Superintendent of Police, Iwara Ibiang Enang, have called on Nigeria’s various security agencies to arrest and question Asari Dokubo, a Niger Delta militant leader, over his reported continuous inciteful statements.

Let’s Talk Nigeria, a flagship Sparkling FM Radio morning talk show in Calabar, Cross River State, hosted both.

The retired security personnel urged the federal government to summon Dokubo immediately and investigate his claims that top military officers, particularly the navy, are involved in bunkering and oil thefts, and that his ‘army’ is in charge of securing some parts of the country rather than the Nigerian Army.

They also linked to a popular video on social media in which he is shown with arms insulting Igbos as slaves and dismissing Nigeria’s security capacity.

“He has been making inciting public statements. These statements are outrageous and have the capacity to cause disaffection and public anger.

“That Dokubo is making these hurtful statements and parading with arms, calls for very urgent actions by security agencies…..so that it can be a deterrent to others and so that other young men do not think they can behave similarly and go Scot-free”, SP Enang said.

Obeten also demanded that Dokubo’s purported statement against the Igbos in the viral social media video, in which he described to them as slaves, be examined.

He stated that the militant leader’s remarks and claims should not be dismissed, and that such impunity against the state must be dealt with properly.

Callers also criticized the militant leader’s impunity in disparaging the Igbos and his remarks about dominating the country’s security networks.
