A day-old female infant has been discovered abandoned close to a septic tank in Gowon Estate, Ipaja, according to the Lagos State Police Command.
The admission was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson.
According to Hundeyin, a member of the public discovered the infant on Wednesday around 8:30 a.m. and called the Gowon Estate Police Division.

He said that a cloth had been used to beat the infant.
“The police officers came on the scene right away and transported the infant to a clinic for immediate medical care.
“The newborn is doing fine.
“The officers have left the hospital for the Juvenile Welfare Centre, Alakara, Mushin, for custody,’’ he said.
