The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate for 2023, Peter Obi, have criticized President Bola Tinubu for awarding board seats to state governors, including those elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and LP.

Tinubu asked the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) on Tuesday night in Abuja to propose qualified people to serve on the boards and parastatals of Federal Government institutions that were dissolved last month, according to NGF Chairman Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Tinubu has disbanded the boards of directors of over 153 agencies, parastatals, institutions, and government-owned firms.

In a statement, Governor Abdulrazaq stated that the members of the forum resolved to praise the President for allowing governors to designate board members across party lines.

However, Yunusa Tanko, Chief Spokesman for the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, condemned the move as a “gimmick” to entice opposition administrations and chieftains to join the APC.

Tanko insisted that such a move “will not change the fact that Tinubu’s presidency is an illegitimate government.”

“APC is doing everything in their crooked book to ensure they legitimize this government, which we have resisted vehemently. We will only do what is rightfully ours when the court makes its decision and pronouncement.

“But as far as we are concerned, every attempt we see them do is a means to cajole people to believe and legitimize their government. That is the truth about it,” he added.
