The African teams’ qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup has been completed.
According to media sources, the drawings took place on Thursday in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, immediately following the 45th Ordinary Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Nigeria’s Super Eagles were grouped with South Africa, Benin, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Lesotho in the race for a place in the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
On Thursday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) verified the draws in a statement on its official Twitter account.

According to a statement from CAF, Africa will employ a one-stage World Cup qualification system for the 2026 edition of the event, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The 54 Member Association teams would be divided into nine groups of six teams each under the new CAF system, which was approved by the Executive Committee.
Since Africa’s berths have been raised to nine, the group winners will advance to the World Cup, with the 10th team qualifying via a playoff format.

The top four runners-up will be chosen at random to compete in a mini-playoff to determine one additional club that will advance to the Intercontinental playoffs.
