Nelson Sylvester, popularly known as Ofunwa, a councilor representing Eha-Ulo ward in Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council, Enugu State, was assassinated.
Gunmen assassinated the congressman on Sunday night at his home in Eha-Alumonah, according to news reports.
Although specifics of the incident remain hazy, a reliable source revealed that the gunmen rushed the lawmaker’s home and began showering gunfire on him.
He went on to say that the Councilor ran into a nearby compound, where his lifeless body was later discovered.
The project has caused consternation among the town and neighboring areas.
The source, who described the suspected assassination as one too many, added that “it is heartbreaking; it is too hard for us to swallow. We are in deep agony.”
Newsmen attempted to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Enugu, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, but he refused to answer the phone. A text message was also sent to him, but he has yet to react as of the time this report was filed.
