Man Detained For Mother’s Death In Ogun

Samson Sikiru, 32, a reputed heavy drug user, is accused of strangling his mother.

ANAEDOONLINE According to information obtained by Metro, the event happened on Sunday at the deceased’s home in Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Upon his return from work, the suspect’s younger brother, a night guard, reportedly informed the neighborhood of the development.

According to a source who spoke to our correspondent, Sikiru was apprehended when his neighbors realized he was responsible for his mother’s death and turned him over to the police.

The source said the suspect had been a known drug addict who had fled from home for five years before he returned recently.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, said the command was aware.
Odutola said the suspect was currently a neuropsychiatric patient.
She said, “The suspect had remained with his mother whom he visited during the Sallah celebration. Though he is known for his retard tendency, his condition was being managed to the best of the knowledge of his mother.

“It is not yet clear if there was any provocation by his mother, but preliminary investigation revealed that earlier the same day, he was tied up in the house, only for him to untie himself, descend on his mother and strangle her.”

“The body was seen on the bed on arrival of the DPO, SP Murphy. On closer observation, marks of violence were found on the deceased.
“Laceration discovered around her right legs proved that there was force and violence.

“Samson Sikiru is still in the police custody, but, nothing much has been extracted from him as he has not answered any coherent questions put across to him.”
