Guinness World Records (GWR) has responded to viral news of a Nigerian man temporarily going blind while aiming to break the record for the longest crying marathon.

According to news reports, a guy named Tembu Ebere, who is of Cameroonian descent, attempted to break a Guinness World Record by crying nonstop for seven days.

In an interview published on Sunday by the BBC, Ebere said that he went largely blind for 45 minutes while completing the challenge.

He indicated that he needed to reconsider his strategy and lessen the intensity of his weeping because it was giving him headaches.

GWR, on the other hand, distanced itself from Ebere’s achievement on Wednesday.

They stated that they did not approve such a task and that they would never be able to monitor such a record.

“Just to quell some recent rumours, we wouldn’t ever monitor a record for the longest marathon crying. Here’s what can be monitored by our team”, the body wrote.

Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef, made headlines in May when she set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon (cook-a-thon) by one individual.
