Three students from a private university in Nasarawa State were brought before the Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Thursday for the death of a Bolt driver.

The accused, Obasieyene Inem, Aaron Anthony, and Alasan Olusegun, were paraded before journalists in Abuja by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba.
According to Garba, one of the suspects used the Bolt App to book a ride to and from the store where they bought their Indian hemp.

He claimed that when the suspects got back to the location where they had booked the transport, they realized they were out of cash and proceeded to con the driver by displaying him a false debit alert on their phone.

He said, “On June 5, 2023, around 8.30 pm, one Obasi Okeke was discovered lying in his pool of blood with a slit throat at Ngugu Close Area 11 Garki, Abuja.
“The painstaking investigation to ascertain those behind this dastardly act led to the arrest of the three suspects namely Obasieyene Inem, Aaron Anthony and Alasan Olusegun.

“In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the deceased was a Bolt driver who was called by one of the suspects to convey them to the Guzape Area of Abuja where they had visited to buy Indian hemp. Back from Guzape to their take-off point, they discovered they had no money to pay for their trip, so they decided to play a fast one by showing the deceased a fake debit alert on their phone.”
He added that the Bolt driver’s insistence that he had not seen the alert resulted in an argument.
Garba said one of the suspects slit the Bolt driver’s throat.

“The deceased insisted he had not received any alert. In the ensuing argument, one of the suspects slit the deceased’s throat and fled the scene. The three suspects have since confessed to the crime and will be charged soon,” he added.
Also paraded was a scavenger identified as Abdusalam Abubakar who was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old boy.

Garba said Abubakar lured the boy and kidnapped him while scavenging materials in the Nyanya area of the FCT.
He said, “On July 13, 2023, around 6pm. acting on actionable intelligence, operatives from Nyanya Division arrested a scavenger, one Abdusalam Abubakar for abducting a three-year-old boy.
“The suspect lured the small boy and when he went with him with the full compliments of his scavenging materials, he was suspected and about to be lynched by angry mobs at Area ‘B’ Nyanya. The boy was rescued and the suspect was arrested.

“In the course of the investigation, he confessed to the crime and identified Abba as his accomplice, who urged him to look for a boy for him. The rescued boy has since been handed over to his parents while the suspect will soon be charged.”
