Loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s 2023 presidential contender, Atiku Abubakar, are reportedly at odds with acting National Chairman, Umar Ililya Damagum, over an alleged romance with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

According to news reports, opposition party chieftains loyal to Atiku are dissatisfied with Damagum for allegedly working and socializing with Wike, who fought against the former Vice President’s presidential ambition.

According to TheCable, some of Atiku’s most ardent supporters include former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, former Niger Governor Babangida Aliyu, and former Minister Adamu Maina Waziri, among others.

According to the magazine, the PDP stalwarts who moved against Damagum are also purportedly working against Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Fintiri over their supposed relationship with Wike.

Atiku supporters also claimed Damagum “mismanaged” the monies he acquired from the Ayu-led national working committee (NWC), which Damagum promptly refuted.

However, it has been revealed that certain Atiku supporters have also approached Wike for assistance with the party’s election suits at several tribunals across the country.

Remember that Wike led a rebellion of five PDP governors against Atiku, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

Atiku lost the election to Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, and is currently contesting the result in court.

The revolt headed by Wike is seen to have contributed to Atiku’s defeat, and Tinubu has now selected Wike to his cabinet, worsening the PDP’s internal problem.
