If the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) decides to employ military force against the military junta in the Niger Republic, the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has expressed concern that the Northern part of Nigeria will be negatively impacted.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, there have been worries since the ECOWAS ultimatum to the military junta in the Niger Republic to give up authority and reinstate the democratically elected President Mohamed Basoum, who was overthrown weeks ago, has expired.
Yerima Shettima, president of AYCF, stated in a recent interview with Channels Television that Nigeria, particularly the northern area, will suffer greatly if ECOWAS decides to employ military force to overthrow the Nigerien military regime.
Niger Coup: See What Tinubu Told ECOWAS Leaders To Do
He forewarned the African Union and the regional organisation headed by President Bola Tinubu against employing force against the coup plotters.
The forum has also urged the coup leaders to start the transitional plan right now in order to return the nation to democratic rule within a year, pointing out that military rule is no longer popular in Africa.
Shettima urged President Tinubu and ECOWAS to use diplomacy and communication to resolve the country’s political deadlock.
