State governors have been cautioned not to syphon the N180 billion in palliatives approved by the federal government, according to the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL.

In a statement on Saturday, Tola Oresanwo, Director of Administration and Programmes at CACOL, issued this caution.

The National Economic Council authorised the release of 180 billion as palliatives to lessen the impact of the elimination of fuel subsidies nationally, according to news reports.

As a result, the civil society organisation advised governors to distribute the palliatives to the general public rather than their friends, family, and political figures.

The group insisted that in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the general populace must experience the effects of the palliative.

“We would also call on the state governors to ensure judicious disbursement of the palliatives in cash and kind.
