On Saturday, the Multinational Joint Tasks Force (MNJTF), which is battling the insurgency in the Lake Chad region, announced that it has continued to observe large-scale militant surrenders.

This information was revealed in a statement issued by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the task force’s spokesperson.

Abdullahi asserts that the task force’s heightened kinetic and non-kinetic actions were responsible for the most recent development.

He said, “In the wake of escalated kinetic and non-kinetic operations by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), coupled with a dwindling logistic supply in Boko Haram hideouts, mass surrenders rattle Boko Haram insurgents.

“Over a span of two days, from 14 to 15 August 2023, four key Boko Haram commanders, 13 main fighters, and a total of 45 family members, laid down their arms and surrendered to troops of Sector 3 MNJTF in Cross Kauwa and Baga of Kukawa LGA.”

According to Abdullahi, among the collected materials from the surrendered weapons are seven AK-47 rifles, over 440 rounds of ammunition in various calibres, one FN Rifle (SLR), and other crucial insurgent gadgets.

He pointed out that on the first day of the latest mass surrender, which took place a few days ago, two commanders, nine main combatants, and twenty-one family members submitted to the persistent operations of soldiers led by the 19 Brigade in Cross Kauwa and the 403 Amphibious Brigade in Baga.
