Popular opposition politicians are reportedly putting the finishing touches on an alliance to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the trio is considering the prospect of forming a coalition that would allow them to take a formidable stance against the APC.

Furthermore, it is acknowledged that the degree of their collaboration is still in its infancy, is being planned in stages, and will also rely on how the 2023 presidential election tribunal, in which President Bola Tinubu’s victory is being contested, turns out.

the conversations between leading leaders, according to report, started with the one between Atiku and Kwankwaso.

After the first leg of the talks was deemed successful, another one reportedly began to take shape between Obi and other crucial PDP members after the other two stakeholders decided to include him.

Sources with access to the conversations claim that they have two main emphasis points.

First, it is said that the three politicians are awaiting the court’s verdict on the presidential election petitions, which would determine the second leg of the decision, especially if the result doesn’t go in their favour.

The leaders were rumoured to be considering the possibility that the tribunal might order a re-election or rerun, in which case they would join forces to run as one candidate against Tinubu and the APC.

If the tribunal made a different decision, the leaders were reportedly considering forming a strong party ahead of the general election in 2027 that would unite the three of them as well as their respective political parties and supporters in order to unseat the ruling APC.

A source quoted on the matter said, “The meeting started with Kwankwaso and Atiku and they have agreed to bring Peter Obi in to set up a formidable opposition after the court cases. Although they have not got to the point of discussing who will lead the opposition, they are leaving it out for now till after the court cases.
