The governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has been told to ensure openness and transparency in the management and distribution of the federal government’s trucks of rice, cereals, and fertiliser as well as the N5 billion palliative fund. These materials are meant to lessen the impact on state residents of the elimination of fuel subsidies.

The Anambra APC Media Frontier (AMF) released a press release through its convenor, Mazi Chidi Orjika, calling for transparency.

Concerning the Anambra State Government’s ‘lack of information’ regarding the receipt of the authorised five billion naira palliative and the distribution of crucial food supplies by the APC-led Federal Government of Nigeria, the AMF raised worry.

In addition to criticising Governor Soludo’s administration for neglecting to inform Anambra’s residents of the monies’ status and the method of allocating them, the AMF expressed concerns that the state government would use the palliative for political purposes. The group also drew comparisons to earlier instances where state governments would adopt various guises and slogans to pass themselves off as welfare programmes while actually being Federal government resource intervention programmes in order to gain cheap political points.

“Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has failed to update the people of Anambra on the status of these funds and the distribution of five trucks of rice(100,000 bags), 40,000 bags of grains and fertilizers due to the Anambra from the Federal Government.

“The AMF suspects that the APGA-led state government in Anambra intends to exploit this palliative for political gain, as evidenced by the previous actions of former Governor Willie Obiano. Under the guise of his “Willie is Working” toga, Obiano wrongfully claimed credit for the APC-led school feeding program, thereby undermining the efforts of our party, the APC, and former President Buhari in the state.

“We cannot afford to witness a similar scenario where the APC-provided palliative from the Federal Government is manipulated and presented as an APGA welfare program for the people of Anambra under the slogan of “Solution is Here”.

In light of the aforementioned, the AMF urges Governor Soludo to show openness, accountability, and transparency in the management of the funds, adding that the residents of Anambra State deserve to know exactly how the funds will be used and when the accompanying food will be distributed.

The AMF Convener, Orjika, emphasised the significance of ensuring that the palliative reaches those in actual need, regardless of their political affiliations, and he also vowed the group’s commitment to closely monitoring the situation and keeping the state administration responsible.

The group concluded by urging all parties involved to demand fairness and transparency in how the Anambra state government distributes the approved palliative.
