Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has long expressed concern about the large number of critical projects that have been abandoned in the city.

He said this on Thursday while inspecting a few project locations in Abuja’s Central Business District.

The amount of unfinished projects in the region, according to Wike, who was joined by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, and other top FCTA management officials, is concerning.

The minister questioned why a project that would benefit the people of Abuja and beyond—the abandoned Millennium Tower project—wouldn’t be finished.

Adesola Olusade, the ministry’s permanent secretary, was instructed by Wike to develop strategies that would expedite the project.

He said: “Let us start doing something about this project before talking about partnership. If we are waiting for partners it will take us up to three years before work will start.

“It is not good to start a project that will havea positive impact on the lives of people and the city and abandon it.”

The Federal Secretariat building’s Phase 1 refurbishment and the completion of roadways B6, B12, and Circle Road in the city core were a few of the projects the minister saw.
