As Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu returns to work today following a recent argument with his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, tension in the Dennis Osadebay Avenue office of the Edo State Government may increase.

Obaseki and Shaibu, who has been on a one-month sabbatical, had a falling out over Obaseki’s desire to become governor.

Remember how the deputy governor filed a lawsuit against his boss, the state House of Assembly, and other parties to thwart an alleged impeachment plot?

Musa Ebomhiana, Shaibu’s chief press secretary, confirmed to Vanguard that his boss would resume today in the wake of the controversy and criticism.

According to a source close to the governor, Obaseki was still shaken by his deputy’s actions despite attempts by some political heavyweights to calm him down. According to the source, Obaseki may open a new office outside the Government House where he will handle official business.

The governor’s new office is around 1,500 yards from the infrequently used emergency gate of the Government House, thus it is unclear if he will also convene exco meetings there.

Today, the governor would receive Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, as well as other participants from Edo and Delta states, at a colloquium to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum.

The colloquium, according to a statement by the governor’s chief press secretary Andrew Okungbowa, was among other activities lined up to celebrate the diamond anniversary of the referendum.
