Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s national head and a candidate for president in 2023, has been placed on administrative leave by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Board of Trustees (BoT) for a period of six months due to alleged anti-party activities.

According to Television Continental (TVC), the National Working Committee (NWC) suspended Boniface Aniebonam, one of the party’s founders, and Agbo Major, the national publicity secretary, just days before suspending Kwankwaso as the party’s head.

In a statement released on Thursday of last week, the acting National Chairman, Abba Kawu Alli, claimed that Aniebonam’s suspension was the result of his disruptive behaviour and that he believed the political platform to be his own property.

The party chairman announced the pair’s immediate suspension pending the outcome of investigations by the Disciplinary Committee of the party.

Since the conclusion of the 2023 elections, a hidden internal conflict has been brewing inside the NNPP, with accusations and denials of accusations being made amongst the various groups within the party.

The suspension imposed on its presidential candidate in the 2023 election has brought the crisis to a climax.
