Enugu Police Arrest Man With Firearm In Masqueraders’ Clash

During a dispute between two Odo Masquerade groups in Aku, the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the state, the Enugu State Police Command reported on Tuesday that it had detained one guy with a firearm.

One man was murdered in the altercation on Monday, according to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesman, who also added that many other people, including police officers stationed nearby, were hurt.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, the conflict arose from a disagreement between the two factions regarding the date of the celebration.

However, the police in the statement said normalcy had since been restored, while an investigation into the cause of the clash had been launched.

Ndukwe said, “One male suspect has been arrested and a firearm recovered from him in connection with the clash between rival groups in the Aku community of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area over the celebration of Odo Masquerade festival on August 28, 2023, around 4pm.

“The incident led to the shooting and murder of one male victim and injury of others, including police operatives deployed to calm the situation.”
