6 Persons Missing As Canoe Capsizes In Niger

Six passengers have been listed as missing when a passenger boat collapsed on the Zamare River in Niger State’s Agwara LGA.

According to information obtained by Daily Trust, the event occurred on Monday while travelers, largely farmers, were making their way from Niger State to Kebbi State.

Locals told Daily Trust that while rescue efforts for the remaining travelers were still on, the lifeless body of one of the travelers had been found.

According to information provided to our correspondent, the canoe overturned after its motor failed in the middle of the river, carrying roughly 20 people, including women and children.

When contacted, the Overseeing Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Garba Salihu confirmed the incident, saying that the agency was yet to get full details of the incident.
