In the wake of Wednesday’s verdict from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), a series of unfolding events showcased the strong resolve of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi to contest the recent court ruling that affirmed Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s duly elected President.

The PEPT, led by the honorable Haruna Tsammani, delivered a unanimous decision, firmly dismissing the petitions put forth by the opposition candidates. Their reasoning revolved around Atiku and Mr. Obi’s inability to substantiate their claims.

Soon after the pronouncement in Abuja, the Labour Party, represented by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, openly expressed their disappointment with the judgment. They argued that it failed to align with the aspirations of the Nigerian people. In response, they announced their unwavering commitment to pursuing an appeal at the Supreme Court, the ultimate authority for resolving presidential election disputes. Mr. Ifoh stressed that, in their view, the judgment had veered away from legal principles and the genuine desires of the Nigerian populace, and they believed that true justice had not been served.

In parallel, Atiku and Mr. Obi wasted no time in making their intentions crystal clear. Their legal representatives, Chris Uche and Livy Uzoukwu, both distinguished Senior Advocates of Nigeria, addressed the media with heartfelt determination. Chris Uche, speaking on behalf of Atiku, declared that they had received unequivocal instructions to take the case to the highest court in the land. “Our client is unwavering in his commitment to challenge this judgment,” emphasized Mr. Uche.

Likewise, Livy Uzoukwu, representing Peter Obi, conveyed the profound disappointment felt by the Labour Party’s presidential candidate. The weight of the court’s decision hung heavily, and Mr. Obi’s dissatisfaction was evident to all. “Our clients are dissatisfied with the judgment just delivered. I have the firm instruction of our client to challenge the judgment on appeal,” affirmed Mr. Livy.

In this sequence of events, the determination of the Labour Party and the presidential candidates to seek justice through the Supreme Court shines through, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to upholding the will of the people.
