Enugu State Secures UK Visa Centre to Boost Ties and Business

by Ikem Emmanuel

In a significant development, the Enugu state government announced on Monday that it has successfully secured approval from the United Kingdom (UK) government to establish a visa centre within the state. This move aims to streamline the visa application process for residents of the southeast region of Nigeria.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, shared this exciting news and highlighted the profound impact it would have on strengthening ties between the state, Nigeria, and the UK. This development comes after Governor Peter Mbah’s request during a visit to the Government House, Enugu, by the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, earlier this year. Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization, also made a similar request during the High Commissioner’s visit to its national secretariat in Enugu last June.

The Enugu State Government received the news of the forthcoming visa centre with immense delight and satisfaction. They foresee it as a catalyst for enhancing economic partnerships and fostering cultural exchanges between Enugu State and the United Kingdom. Prof Onyia emphasized that this visa centre would help solidify the relationship between the two regions, promoting mutual benefits.

The government has encouraged the people of the South-East, especially those residing in Enugu State, to take full advantage of this opportunity to file their visa applications locally. They assured residents and visitors alike that security measures would be enhanced to ensure safety for all conducting business within the state.

Enugu State is keenly open for business and investment, and this development signifies its commitment to facilitating easier access and fostering closer ties with international partners, particularly the United Kingdom. The visa centre is expected to streamline and expedite the visa application process, making travel and business engagements between Enugu State and the UK more convenient and efficient.
