The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in recent operations, confiscating 399 explosives and illicit drugs while apprehending several suspects. These operations are a testament to the agency’s commitment to maintaining a safe and drug-free society.

Explosive Discovery on Mokwa-Jebba Road

Operatives made a startling discovery on September 7 when they found 399 improvised explosive devices in the possession of Asana Leke, a 39-year-old man. Leke admitted that he received these explosives in Ibadan, Oyo State, with the intention of delivering them to someone in Kaduna. Military authorities in Niger State have taken custody of Leke and the confiscated explosives.

Continued Vigilance Against Drug Abuse

The NDLEA’s dedication to eradicating drug abuse extends beyond seizures and arrests. State commands and other formations have been actively engaging in drug abuse advocacy campaigns in schools, places of worship, palaces, and local communities.

In separate incidents, NDLEA operatives intercepted shipments of drugs concealed in unconventional ways. One operation led to the discovery of 20 kilograms of skunk hidden within tomato paste containers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Another operation uncovered 1.60 kilograms of methamphetamine cleverly concealed within used clothes intended for export to Dubai.

The NDLEA has been unrelenting in its pursuit of drug traffickers. One notable seizure involved 556 grams of Canadian Loud, sent from Canada to a recipient named Tunji Adebayo in Ikorodu, Lagos. Although Adebayo was not present when operatives visited his residence, his younger brother accepted the package on his behalf and was promptly arrested.

Arrests Across States

In a determined effort to combat drug trafficking, NDLEA operatives raided the hideout of a notorious drug lord known as Abdul Rauf, also called ‘Na God,’ in Akala, Mushin, Lagos. During the operation, they seized an astounding 1,101 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud and apprehended three suspects, although the kingpin himself remains at large.

The NDLEA has made arrests across various states in Nigeria. In Ogun State, Yinka Azeez was apprehended in Abeokuta after the seizure of 41 kilograms of cannabis from Titilayo Adetayo. In Kano, Muhammad Aliyu and Abdullahi Zakariya were arrested with over 426.5 kilograms of skunk. Additionally, 22 bags of skunk weighing 261.4 kilograms were seized from Amuodu Egwehide, with Mrs. Eunice Egwehide, a 60-year-old grandmother, also arrested with 17 kilograms of the same substance.
