The petition Shaibu filed against the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, about an alleged plot to impeach him, was withdrawn a few days prior.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Shaibu identified the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, the Governor of Edo State, and the Chief Judge of Edo State as defendants in a circular dated September 5, 2023. The case was filed before the Federal High Court, and Shaibu mentioned it.

The deputy governor disclosed in the circular that he withdrew the lawsuit after several discussions with Obaseki, well-meaning Edo residents, and Nigerians, including party leaders, traditional chiefs, and the archbishop of the Benin Archdiocese of the Catholic Church.
