In response to claimed broken promises by the firm and the state government, Niger Delta Delta Itsekiri Oil Producing Communities (NDIOPC) yesterday threatened a new shutdown of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) facilities in the Olero, Dibi, and Abiteye fields in Delta State.

Natives of the Itsekiri host communities protested the state government’s and Chevron’s alleged refusal to convert the VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 graduates to staff members of the oil giant 15 years after their employment, despite interventions by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, in a letter to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

The VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 graduates allegedly went through the recruitment process and completed their one-year training programme.

In the letter, signed by Raymond Aderejor, Eyeolusan Arubi, Bawo Remere, Austin Dorsu, Alfred Jemine, Kingsley Omamogho, Taiye Alakowe, Freeborn Ododo, Oritseje Oporukun and Tony Oweghoro, NDIOPC recalled how some notable personalities, including Weyinmi Okorodudu, Momodu Releand and former Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba, intervened at various stages of their protest, making several promises without fulfilling them.
