Chief Donatus, the Anambra State Government’s newly appointed market revenue collector, and his cohorts have been issued a warning not to take advantage of the State Government.

This was clarified by Board of Trustees (BoT) members and a few significant market participants during a media briefing in response to accusations made by Obi against Mr. Ifechukwu Anozie, a well-known market participant and so-called “voice of the people.”

Mr. Anozie (Voice of the People), in a conversation with newsmen, claimed that Mr. Obi had accused him of upsetting the market’s tranquilly and preventing him and his men from collecting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Anozie, on the other hand, asserted that the accusations were unfounded and explained that he made them in order to expose Obi and his gang, who he claimed were only given the authority by the Anambra State Government to collect tax and development levies while the court case was pending and not to manage the market’s operations.

Anozie further claimed that Mr. Obi and his group were underpaying the Anambra State Government by failing to send the real money they received from traders to the state government.

He said they have over 3,700 shops, 400 attachments, and more than 80 plazas; yet, he claimed they have only been remitting between N5m and N4m year despite being ordered to remit over 15m naira annually.

He added that because Obi is not a member of the Board of Trade, the market’s constitution prohibits him from managing the affairs of Electronics Dealers Associations in the absence of a duly elected chairman. He also claimed that Obi has his personal receipts in violation of the Anambra State Government’s directives.

The members of the BOT are: Benjamin Anyanwu, Dona Onyiloha, Nnameka Nwanna, Philip Iheanacho, Simon Nwakwo, Gunis, and Gozac, according to Anozie.

He urged the Anambra State Government to look into anything he claimed in order to ascertain the truth.

” Mr Donatus Obi knew I am saying nothing but the truth. That is why he is looking for every possible means to accuse me wrongly. He doesn’t want to be sincere with Anambra State Government. Secondly, going by our constitution, he is not qualified to rule Electronics Dealers Association Market Onitsha. Traders will bear me witness that I have told them severally to go and pay their taxes and Development levy”.

In addition to Mr. Anozie, another stakeholder, Mr. Chinedu Ochife, claimed that Mr. Obi was violating the Anambra State Government’s directives by collecting five levies rather than the tax and development levies and that Obi and his thugs often beat up their clients.

Mr. Ochife highlighted that these individuals’ acts drive away business from Anambra State and urged the state government to respond swiftly.
