The academic records of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been made public by Chicago State University.
The documents Anaedoonline.ng reviewed on Friday (today) disprove rumours that the former governor of Lagos State did not earn a college degree.
Recall that As he pursues his petitions against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Supreme Court, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contender for the 2023 presidential election, has asked the university to make Tinubu’s academic records available to him.
However, according to the records made public by Chicago State University, Tinubu did get a bachelor’s degree from the school in 1979.

Statement Regarding Tinubu’s Academic History
President Bola Tinubu attended Chicago State University (CSU), according to a statement the school made earlier.
The college also disclosed that the former Lagos State governor earned a bachelor’s degree in 1979. In a statement sent to CBS Broadcasting Inc., often known as CBS News, the university revealed CSU’s position.

“As an educational institution, we are occasionally asked to provide information related to student records,” the school stated.
However, the school stated that FERPA, or the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, is a federal statute that preserves the confidentiality of student records and places restrictions on what an institution can make public.
It further stated, “In August 2023, a request was made to the U.S. federal court for the university to provide information related to educational records concerning Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, and a former CSU student.
“The university has confirmed Tinubu attended CSU and graduated in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree. Federal law, however, prevents us from providing any further information without consent or unless allowed to do so via court order.
Tinubu Files Suit To Stop U.S. Court From Releasing Academic Records
“CSU is confident in the veracity and integrity of our records regarding Tinubu’s completion of graduation requirements and degree certificate. The university is not a party to the Nigerian legal proceedings that spurred this request, and a U.S. federal judge will determine whether the university will provide further requested information.
“Our response to the request for Tinubu’s academic records has been entirely consistent with our practices, policies and federal law. We would respond in exactly the same manner for any request for any student information by a third party.”
