Following the selection of Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, We have outlined the qualifications of the new head of the top bank.
Folashodun Shonubi, who had been acting after Godwin Emefiele’s suspension on June 9, was replaced by Cardoso.

Upon the restoration of civil democracy in 1999 with Tinubu serving as the then governor, he was appointed as the first commissioner for economic planning and budget in Lagos State.
Cardoso has held positions as executive director and vice president at Citizens International Bank and Chase Bank, among other institutions, where he practised as a professional banker.
Cardoso was the managing partner of FBC Associates Limited and served on the boards of directors for a number of businesses, notably MRS Oil Nigeria PLC.
