The University of Calabar is currently embroiled in a sexual harassment investigation involving the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Cyril Ndifon. However, a disturbing twist to the unfolding saga has emerged, involving threats made by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ohaneye, towards female students testifying in the case.

The Minister’s threats came to light through a leaked audio message that quickly went viral. In the recording, she cautioned one of the female students who had accused Professor Ndifon of rape, warning her that she could face imprisonment if she lied against him. The Minister’s strong words have added a new dimension to the ongoing investigation.

Alleged Sexual Harassment: Suspended UNICAL Dean Drags VC, Others To Court

The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Bisong, expressed her concern over the leaked audio, describing it as a “disturbing dimension” to the case. She emphasized that the students from the Faculty of Law had independently submitted a petition and protested against the suspended Dean. According to her, those who have testified before the investigative panel did so voluntarily, without any external influence.

The University has taken a proactive approach to address the allegations against Professor Ndifon, emphasizing its commitment to academic excellence and creating an environment that supports the rights of women in an often oppressive and patriarchal society.
